ELLM/Plus is an 11-month theme-related comprehensive curriculum designed to be delivered to 3- and 4-year-old children in early learning centers and schools by ELLM/Plus trained staff who deliver lessons in warm and caring classrooms where creativity, curiosity, and persistence are encouraged. The theme-based curriculum includes 11 monthly instructional packets, 51 children's books, 36 complementary books written to extend children's understanding of the concepts, and 20 resources that support instruction including: a Teacher Resource Guide and Curriculum Framework, the Informal Assessment Guide for Classroom Teachers and Site-Based Administrators, ELLM/Plus Implementation Fidelity Checklist, Alphabet Song DVD, Alphabet Poster, Alphabet Flash Cards, Letter Recognition Booklet, Letter Cluster Poster, Alphabet Poems Booklet, Word Wall Booklet, Word Wall Header Cards, Phonological Awareness and Phonics Connection Booklet, Transitions for Daily Use Booklet, Thematic Poems Booklet, Children's Emergent Writing Guide, Physical Development Booklet: Gross and Fine Motor Development, Physical Development Booklet: Health and Wellness and Self-Help, Print Concept Poster, Print Concept Labels, and a Rules Poster (FLOW).
The ELLM/Plus Daily Instructional Routine (DIR) is the framework for implementing whole group, small group, and individual instruction throughout the day (6 hours), helping to organize a complex and demanding instruction environment. Small-group activities are written at three levels (activities for 3's, activities for 4's, and extension activities) and are designed to support teachers as they differentiate instruction. Using this framework, teachers model lessons for children and then provide for guided and independent practice, and multiple exposures and opportunities for children to learn skills and knowledge presented in the ELLM/Plus curriculum.
The 11 monthly instructional themes include: Welcome to PreK, All About Me, Families, The Inquiry Process, My Neighborhood and My Community, Moving Things, Seasons and Weather, Our Earth, Animals and Insects, Plants Are Living Things, and Ready for Kindergarten.
Embedded in the monthly themes are 11Social-Emotional Themes: Belonging, Making Friends, Getting Along, Celebrating Diversity, Being Polite and Kind, Feelings and Emotions, Solving Problems, Showing Respect, Citizenship, Being Responsible, and Being the Best Person I Can Be.
